FreeMarker : Java Glossary

FreeMarker
Freemarker 2.3.10 is an open-source Java template system that exposes Java servlet variables to HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), sort of a super SSI (Server Side Includes). It is not a programming language. It works independently of Servlets. If gives you an HTML expression, IF, CASE, INCLUDE, FUNCTION… The project is now hosted by SourceForge. You might this of it as a simplified JSP (Java Server Pages). It is fast, simple and the documentation is superb. You markup your HTML with FTL (Freemarker Template Language) tags that insert data from a tree-structed data model.

This would be a good choice for a simple project where you are not already a competent Servlet programmer, and just need to get the code out quickly. It fits into the same niche as PHP (Pre-Hypertext Processor), but is more elegant.
