ROM : Computer Hardware Buyers’ Glossary

ROM
ROM (Read Only Memory). Your computer contains a small permanent uneraseable BIOS (Basic Input Output System) program burned into it, stored in ROM chips. This program handles the very basic functions needed to get Windows-95 started. Ordinary RAM (Random Access Memory) loses its contents when you turn off the power. ROM retains its factory-set contents indefinitely.
