Winamp

a free, ad-free, sound plug-in for browsers. It comes with built-in support for the following formats:

MP3/MP2 (MPEG audio layers 1, 2, and 3)
MOD/S3M/XM/IT (digital synthesized music formats)
MIDI/MID (musical instrument digital interface)
WAV/VOC (digital audio file)
CDA (compact disc audio)
WMA (Windows Media Audio)
AS/ASFS (Audiosoft secure MP3 file)

The latest version now supports AU format, the granddaddy of them all. It has a jukebox function where you can create playlists. I found it behaves more reliably than RealAudio or Crescendo.

If Winamp fails to play a file, try Windows Media Player, QuickTime, or RealPlayer. I use it primarily AVI.

Recently Winamp has decided grossing out its customers is the way to be cool, with S&M bestiality and a picture of an employee’s crusty toenail.
