TCP Optimizer

This is a free program that greatly speeds up your internet connection on Windows computers. It speeded up an old Win 98 machine 40 times! It is both easy to use, and it gives you all kinds of technical detail about what it did to change the registry settings. It has a secondly salutary effect of cleaning out any junk or missing values, replacing everything with sensible values.

If you have poor quality lines, you will get scrambled or lost packets that have to be retransmitted, slowing down the flow. To estimate the quality of your lines see ping.

I would not recommend letting it change any TCP/IP priority settings in Vista. If you want to experment make sure you take a backup of the old settings.
