spyware
A Trojan program that spies on you and reports what it finds to criminals. Usually it is looking for bank account numbers, identity information, financial information, passwords, blackmail possibilities, credit card numbers, PIN numbers, account numbers… This information can be used for credit card fraud or identity theft or other nefarious activities.

They typically piggyback on toy novelty programs. To protect yourself, only install necessary software from know reputable sites.
