This essay does not describe an existing computer program, just one that should exist. This essay is about a suggested student project in Java programming. This essay gives a rough overview of how it might work. I have no source, object, specifications, file layouts or anything else useful to implementing this project. Everything I have to say to help you with this project is written below. I am not prepared to help you implement it; I have too many other projects of my own.

I do contract work for a living, which could include writing a program such as this. However, I don’t do people’s homework for them. That just robs them of an education.

This is one of the amanuensis projects. Ideally they would hook into regenerating macro framework as I described under HTML macros. Each amanuensis would take a few parameters, then generate Java source code. You could read the books listed under design patterns to get ideas for patterns you might generate. Other pattern you might tackle are merging two streams of data, control breaks, inserting separators, parsing for separators or removing duplicates. The amanuenses might be designed to work in two modes, interactively and from the command line by listboxes.
