Merlin: Sun’s code name for the JDK 1.4. It is mostly for bug fixes and performance enhancement rather than new features. Coming features include keyboard accelerators for long Choice lists, 64-bit JVMs, shared code between JVMs, faster class loading, UTF-7 encoding, simple assertions, concise array literals for more compact class files with array initialisation, IPV6, standard inferface for PODs. What is not there is any fast start feature such as gespenstering or hibernation.
The Apache Avalon Merlin project allows complicated container/component models.
