Computers are a natural for tracking genealogy (family history). Note the spelling carefully. Software can easily format various layouts with differing amounts of detail. They let you update data. They let family members work collaboratively. Mormons maintain genealogical records on everyone as part of their strange habit of marrying dead couples with a Mormon religious ceremony.

Cousins

This table will help you figure out complex cousin relationships. Cousins are not necessarily of the same generation.

I have been setting up a family tree on Geni. It has been a remarkably pleasant social experience and more and more family members get involved and start filling in the detail. My neice announced her upcoming marriage to everyone by linking in her new husband. There is room for photos, and all kinds of personal detail about each person. It is a way of learning about your relatives that you thought you knew.
