gamut
Java’s RGB (Red Green Blue) colour model allows 256 intensities each of red, green and blue. This permits 16,777,216 numbered colours. In addition there is an alpha channel than allows 256 degrees of transparency/opacity. This range of colour/color possibilities is known as the gamut.
