flame
Flaming usually means personally attacking fellow debaters in a newsgroup forum. It can also mean posting outrageous inflamatory statements designed merely to get a rise out of people.

A signficicant proportion of people who debate in newsgroups have no interest in exchanging information or even of attempting to change other people’s minds. They are there because they enjoy annoying others and they enjoy fighting.

Fighting styles vary. Some of the more common are:

Ferrous Cranus (not to be confused with Tin Hat)
Grammarian
Grunter
L’enfant provocateur
Troglodytes
troller
