cybersquatter : Java Glossary

cybersquatter
aka ramora, someone who buys a domain name similar to an existing one. The intent is users will be confused and will sometimes go to the cybersquatter site, where they will be subjected to advertisements or material critical of the official site. Often the intent is to extort money from the official website holder, offering to sell him the related domains at inflated price. Sometimes the intent is simply to harm the official website holder by drawing traffic way and alienating his customers. Sometime they just want to increase walk-in traffic from people who cannot spell. Cybersquatters sometimes get swatted down and forced to relinquish their domains without compensation.
