COM : Java Glossary

COM
COM (Component Object Model) stands for COM. Microsoft’s interface specification for hooks into Java for interprogram communication. COM also covers how pluggable component applications fit together. COM started out as DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) on the Win 3.1 platform. Then it changed its name to OLE (Object Linking & Embedding), then again to ActiveX, and yet again to COM. COM is a generic term that also covers the earlier DDE, OLE and ActiveX.
