chat
A program that lets a group of people talk to each other in real time. Unfortunately Java Applets have a severe restriction that makes chat Applets less efficient than they otherwise would be. Applets cannot talk to anyone on the net other than the server from which they were loaded. They can’t talk directly to other Applets running on other computers. Instead they must talk to a server that relays messages to the other Applets. You can get around this restriction with signed Applets, but that opens a can of worms. Babylon is a GPLed Java chat system, not fancy, but a start for building your own. One the best chat systems I have seen is at Gay.com. You might consider setting up your chat system by licensing software or servers from some existing chat system.
