A free, fast, open-source compression utility that competes with PKZIP, WinZip and WinRar. It’s key claim to fame is its own super-compressing algorithm. Unfortunately, if you use it, other utilities won’t be able to unzip your files.

Available for Windows, Linux and various Unices.

For a windows user, the install instructions might as well be written in Chinese. It comes in the form of a file compressed with itself. The documentation is that typical of Unix, aimed at the technical elite.
