bean counting : Java Glossary

bean counting
The classic bean counting application would be an inventory where you keep track how how many widgets you have on stock and on order. Bean counting applications are done almost purely with integer mathematics. Most database applications, payroll, financial and banking would all count as bean counting. It deals with names and addresses, coded facts and counts of things.

In contrast a scientfic application typically using mainly floating point calculation to deal with quantities measured in a variety of SI (Systèm Internationale (metric)) units.
