An open source, free platform for cloud computing. It was originally developed by Rackspace and NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration). Today it is supported by 200+ companies including Arista Networks, AT&T (American Telephone & Telegraph), AMD (Advanced Micro Devices), Canonical, Cisco, Dell, EMC, Ericsson, Go Daddy, Hewlett-Packard, IBM (International Business Machines), Intel, Mellanox, NEC (Nippon Electric Corporation), NetApp, Nexenta, Oracle, Red Hat, SUSE Linux, VMware and Yahoo!
The big advantage over Amazon EC2 (Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud), is there are many vendors providing service. If your vendor misbehaves, it is relatively easy to move somewhere else.
