jump the shark
A defining moment when you know that your favorite television program has reached its peak. From that episode on, it’s all downhill. Some call it the climax. It refers to the climatic episode in Happy Days when Fonzie and a shark interacted. The term can also be applied to relationships to mark the point where it started to go downhill.
