Most anti-gay hate groups are Christian based. They justify their hate using Leviticus 18:22 which condemns male homosexual behaviour calling it an “abomination”. Abomination is a lurid English translation of the Hebrew word to’evah which did not usually signify something intrinsically evil, but something ritually unclean for Jews. So, for example boiling veal in its mother’s milk was to’evah, as was crafting a garment of two different types of fibres.

Christian bigots interpret it to mean “You have free reign to make lives miserable for gays including torturing and stoning them to death.” They don’t tell you that Leviticus was a grumpy old man who hated everyone. He condemned people on the most trivial of excuses like eating shrimp. Read Leviticus for yourself. They ignore every line in Leviticus except the one condemning gays. That is deeply dishonest. The hate groups have been losing ground in the USA and Canada, so are fighting to keep hate alive in Africa. They are behind some of the insane anti-gay laws in Africa. Without the religious excuse, these groups would have the same reputation as neo-Nazis. What motivates them is identical.

Oddly, Apple Computer refuses to stop donating to the Christian Values Network hate group. Normally they are fairly progressive.
