paper weights
There are three paper weight schemes, lb, mil gsm that measure the thickness/heaviness of paper.
  1. The oldest scheme is lb. If a ream (500 sheets) of 43.18 × 55.88 cm (1.42 × 1.83 ft) paper weighed 20 pounds, we would say the paper were 20 pound bond.
  2. mil measures caliper thickness in thousandths of an inch.
  3. The most modern and accurate scheme is gsm that measures grams per square metre.
When you buy a printer you need to make sure it handles thickness and stiffness of paper you want to use.
