remote sensor network : Java Glossary

It is now possible to instrument a house with a set for sensors for less than $100. The sensors communicate wirelessly with low-power radio, much like WiFi (Wireless Fidelity). There are sensors for temperature, light, pressure… and controllers to turn AC (Alternating Current) power on or off or act as a dimmer. The central controller needs so little computational power that any computer or single board microprocessor will do.

There are three popular schemes for communication

• ZigBee
• XBee
• Arduino
