Panose number : Java Glossary

PANOSE number
A scheme for categorising fonts. It helps you recognise a font or find similar fonts or create font substitutions. It is a 10-digit hex number to encode 10 characteristics:
  1. Family Kind
  2. Serif Style
  3. Weight
  4. Proportion
  5. Contrast
  6. Stroke variation
  7. Arm style
  8. Letterform
  9. Midline
  10. X-height
I don’t think Java supports them. They are embedded in some TrueType font files.
