localhost and 127.0.0.1 are the DNS (Domain Name Service) and corresponding IP (Internet Protocol) names for the local machine. For NT and W2K you need an entry in your C:\Windows\hosts. file of the form 127.0.0.1 localhost to let you access the local machine’s server applications. In W7-32, W7-64, W8-32, W8-64, W2012, W10-32 and W10-64 the entry is implied.For NT the file is stored in C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. For Vista, W2008, W7-32, W7-64, W8-32, W8-64, W2012, W10-32 and W10-64, look in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts.
