Religion and Security

There is a strong correlation between atheism and security. Countries tend to be atheist where people do not fear the police, where there are no armed gangs, where there is a social safety net, where there is universal health care etc. Why would this be so?

• When people are secure, they don’t need an imaginary sky god to look over them.
• When people are religious, they don’t think it necessary to take care of one another. They leave it up to the sky god.
• When people are religious, they imagine misfortune is a divine punishment for misdeeds. They don’t want to interfere with such punishment.
