The Death of Religion, A Good Thing

Here are some of the reasons I think it would be a good thing if religion vanished from earth:

1. persecution of homosexuals.
2. sexual and physical abuse of children by clergy.
3. beating children.
4. blocking birth control.
5. refusing medical care to children, insisting on prayer only.
6. lying that condoms are ineffective in preventing HIV (Human Immuno-deficiency Virus).
7. exploitation of the poor and elderly.
8. Making promises they cannot possibly keep — medical cures, eternal bliss…
9. interference with other people’s end-of-life decisions.
10. interfering with organ transplants.
11. interfering with other people’s abortion decisions, including forcing children to bear products of rape, of incest or when the fetus is non-viable.
12. interfering with other people’s choice of life partner.
13. non-consensual male circumcision.
14. false teaching about science and evolution.
15. lying about the infallibility of the bible.
16. forcing non-believers to participate in religious ceremonies.
17. I have not included female circumcision and honour killings because they are more cultural than religious superstitions.

You don’t need religion to have morals. If you can’t determine right from wrong, then you lack empathy, not religion.
