Dominance is Obsolete

Dominance in an adaptation to anarchy and it serves no purpose in a society that has undergone a civilising process or in an international system regulated by agreements and norms. Anything that deflates the concept of dominance is likely to drive down the frequency of fights between individuals and wars.

~ Steven Pinker (1954-09-18 age:63) The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined

Think of the old west, which was an anarchy. As rule of law came into play, who would have been most resistant? The guy with the fastest gun who could formerly get whatever he wanted by force. In modern day, Americans are both contemptuous and fearful of the UN (United Nations), or of any rule of law between countries. They refuse even to be constrained by the agreements they signed into treaties. They like anarchy because, for now, they are the biggest gun. They have also refused to acknowledge the authority of the world court. They consume the lion’s share of the world’s resources. They imagine this is a result of Yankee business acumen, but it certainly helps to have military bases scattered all over the globe to provide friendly persuasion to governments insufficiently compliant with the wishes of US business. As China takes over the top superpower spot, Americans will come to regret this choice. Living in an anarchy dominated by China will be considerably less pleasant than living as #2 under rule of law.
