A snippet is a minimal stand alone program that demonstrates functionality or lack of functionality. Why is this important? Posting a snippet to the news group is the quickest way to get help. Including a snippet in a bug report is the fastest way to get a bug fixed. Since they are all ready to run without extra effort more people will try them out. There is no abiguity obout what you when the program is self-contained. Some people use the term more losely for any program fragment.

These are sometimes called SSCCE (Simple Self Contained Compilable Example)s
