podcast : Java Glossary

podcast
A term originally used to describe Apple’s scheme for downloading music into its iPod portable MP3 players. However, it has use has expanded to distributing any MP3 or other audio content (and even video format .mov (Quicktime), .wmv (Windows Media), or .avi). You don’t need an iPod, just any computer capable of downloading files from the Internet. It uses RSS (RDF Site Summary) so that programs like iTunes can periodically check for updates and follow-ups and automatically download them. Podcasts can be used for example for political radio shows.
