A project to develop a free, open source, reference implementation of the Java EE (Enterprise Edition) 6 platform. Glassfish does everything a web server like Tomcat does plus EE, clustering, failover and dynamic reconfigurinrg without having to shutown and restart. In general, applications written for Tomcat will run unmodified on Glassfish. Oddly, Glassfish is faster than Tomcat. One of Glassfish’s pleasing features is the ability to update the code that forms it without needing to shutdown and restart.
