Children sometimes drag around a filthy old security blanket. It makes them feel safe, even though it endangers their health. Similarly, adult Americans sometimes drag around a firearm, to make them feel safe, even tough it is 22 times more like kill a family member than an intruder. It is time they grew up and gave up this self-indulgence.
