In the 1960s there was a civil war in Vietnam. Had the USA lets things be, the majority would most likely have prevailed. However, Kennedy decided he knew better than the people of Vietnam what was good for them. He wanted to tip the scales in favour of the less popular dictator, Diem and sent advisors This was a violation of the democratic principle of letting others choose their own leaders. It was a disaster for everyone.
