In some societies, parents prefer to have male children. It might be wise not to interfere. Why?
- They will have fewer children overall, e.g. people who keep having children until they get a boy, can get one on the first try if they use artificial means.
- With fewer female babies, there will be fewer mothers and fewer babies in future. The excess boys will not be reproducing.
- As females get rarer, it is possible their status will rise, as it did in the Gold Rush days. This may be what it takes so shake up some rigid patriarchal societies.
It is hard enough to get people to control their rabbit instincts. Let us not interfere with sex selection as a means of population control that does not need a hard sell.~ Roedy (1948-02-04 age:69)
