downloader

Originally a downloader was a program that helped you download files. You could get several downloads going at once. It would start the download even before you had decided the final destination. It would show you the progress and ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) of each download. However, they have evolved into malware. PADSites are particularly fond of them, tacking them onto contributed programs. CNet is a major offender.

They crash 90% of the time.
They sneakily install all manner of unrelated junk software you did not want.
They slow down and complicate the process of downloading and installing.

It is almost to the point I refuse to touch software if it comes with a downloader.
