Dirty tricks that websites use to trick users into buying things they did not mean to buy or install crapware they did not mean to install. For example, Ryan air, after you buy a ticket, asks you to fill in your country of origin. In the fine print it explains that choosing a country of origin buys flight insurance. Another dirty trick is shopping carts that mysteriously change an order for one item to two. Another pattern is asking for a credit card to prove age, then putting charges on it. DarkPatterns.org shames offending websites. You can submit offenders to them. They identify the following common patterns:

If a website asks me for an email and I cannot see any legit reason they should send me mail, I give them a special throwaway email address that I consider quasi-spam. So often they sell my address and I find myself on many spam lists.
