Mean What You Say

I often say to Christians, If you don’t mean these crazy, and blood thirsty things in the bible, such as Leviticus 20:13 why don’t you find some way to formally repudiate them? The idea horrifies them. On some level, they do mean them. Yahweh commands every imaginable evil act, hence excusing it. Further, the whole notion of absolution is that you can do any horrible thing you want, so long as you buy an indulgence or persuade a priest to say a magic spell. Do what thou wilt was stolen from Christianity.

Amusingly Mary Polak, the Liberal candidate in the riding of Langley in BC, said her faith requires her to honour this verse, but she respects her campaign manager, Todd Hauptman, who is gay. She also opposes marriage equality and any form of education that acknowledges the existence of gay people. Her faith also requires her to honour slavery, but she makes an exception for that. What a hypocrite!
