There are several reasons the temperatures predicted by the climate scientists don’t sound as scary as they really are.

- They are global temperatures, including the oceans. Oceans cover most of the planet, and will not change much. That means the parts over land will jump considerably to make up the average.
- They are yearly average temperatures. The peak summer temperatures will be much higher.
- Plants and wildlife don’t have the option of air conditioning. Plants have no choice but to die when the climate goes out of range. Animals have no choice but to move elsewhere.
- The American southwest, where most produce in the USA comes from, will be most seriously hit.
- The warming effects are not evenly distributed. The poles and tropical regions will be more severely affected.
- If the summer days are 40°C (104°F) and the winter nights are -10°C (14°F), the average works out to a balmy sounding 15°C (59°F).
