The primary motivation now for fighting the Afghanistan and Iraq wars is male pride. The pro-war faction don’t want to admit that even with unlimited budget they cannot defeat an small band of what they consider their racial inferiors. Granted, withdrawal means wounded pride, but persisting with the occupation means more people maimed and killed on both sides just to procrastinate the emotional pain of admitting their “enemies”/victims will never say uncle no matter how viciously they are bombed or tortured. Americans give lip service to Christianity, but the Afghans and Iraqis truly do believe they will live forever.
