In the United States, if someone threatens to kill your child, you are permitted to murder him, and claim self defence. You can do this even if it is someone else’s child. But if the person threatening is a US soldier, and the child is in Afghanistan, you will be shot on the spot as a terrorist. There is a good chance you will be killed even if you merely try to shield the child with your body.
