God Owns You

Here is an email I received in response to one of my essays.

i came upon a section entitled arguments against euthanasia rights. One of the arguments is God Owns You. i found this to be very disheartening being a Christian myself. this is because what was said in this paragraph is only partly accurate. now let me first say that Christians are not here to force what we beleive on anyone, we are simply living the life we are called to live.

You will never convince me of that. Many Christians define the most crucial aspect of their faith is making life as unpleasant as possible for gay people like myself. In many parts of the world make our very existence illegal. They encourage thugs to beat and kill us. They spread lies about us. They prevent us from marrying. They meddle in other people’s contraception and abortion decisions. They work tirelessly to derail AIDs education. They meddle in euthanasia poking their noses in where they have no stake. They tell me they are killing in Afghanistan to free the people from the tyrrany of Islam so they can embrace Christianity. Christians make their fanciful beliefs up, so no two of them agree. You personally may be more tolerant, but your Christian brothers who have thousands of times threatened to kill me are the ones I am concerned about. The most annoying feature of Christians is they are busybodies, who imagine they have the right to run other people’s lives because of their imagined moral superiority.

i almost laughed out loud when i read this paragraph as it appears to point the finger at Christians and say that we are liars and hypocrites. this is not so. we are neither.

There is no evidence of any kind for Christian belief. What is even more embarrassing, the supposedly inerrant bible is wrong on nearly all matters of science, and contradicts itself over and over. Pretending it is true despite massive evidence it is not is just a form of lying. All religions are in the same boat. They just make it up and claim is a virtue to believe the absurdity without evidence. It is a con game as old as man. Everything you say to support Christianity applies equally well to every other religion and cult, yet you reject all of them as absurd. Yours is just as absurd as the rest. It would have no appeal to you had you not been brainwashed as a child before you were old enough to reason. You know that. Had you been born in Thailand, Yahweh would mean nothing to you. The Christian bible would be just as absurd to you as it is to me.

now, of course, i cannot speak for anyone but myself but i can tell you that we are on this journey just like the rest of you on this earth. i felt that the comments made in this paragraph paint an in accurate picture of what Christians believe and the way we live.

ok so i recognise that you may not have the same beliefs as the man to your left or to your right, however, i have just read something on your euthanasia arguments. The Bible says that phaspacts and phactpared are both forbidden by the Bible. You will go to hell if you are involved in any way with them. Therefore, they should be illegal. no where is says How arrogant to assume that everyone else accepts your religion as valid! Perhaps you forget that both the American and Canadian constitutions guarantee freedom of religion and thus also freedom from religion. do you honnestly think that just because you chose not to believe in God that he simply goes away?

He does not go away. He never was. He no more real than the bogey man under the bed, fairies on leprechauns. He is a figment of your imagination.

can you not see the vast beauty around you? have you never examined the immense glory all around you? even the body which you call you own is a wonderfully complex design in every way! who’s arrogant now?! open your eyes and stop using the word arrogant to describe anyone but yourself.

I have seen the vast beauty and I have also studied it under a microscope very closely. On first glance it appears to be a deliberate design, but when you look closely you discover that is simply not so. For example, the human body’s design is incredibly inept. (Ask anyone with a bad back, a back much more suited to a quadruped). Gradual evolution explains why it is the way it is much better that postulating an invisible old man in the clouds. I have read the bible cover to cover. I suspect you have not. I further suspect you have read nothing by Richard Dawkins which would explain the modern theory of how we came to be. You are afraid to expose yourself to the scientific truth. You prefer to drink the filthy distortions of Darwin’s theories from dishonest creationists and vomit forth these endlessly discredited arguments without understanding.

I ask you Christians to bugger off and stop meddling in my life based on what you imagine some imaginary being wants. Stick to what we all can both sense and agree on is real. A peaceful and just pluralistic society is not possible otherwise because there infinite fanciful lies and delusions. Shop trying to surreptitiously force your crap religion/delusion down my throat. You are all as nutty as the inmates of an insane asylum and many times more dangerous because there are so many of you.

I have been hassled by you Christian ninnies all my life. You are like black flies, or Chatty Cathy dolls, that can endlessly repeat cant without thinking. I find it impossible to wish you well.
