SPDIF
Sony/Philips Digital Interconnect Format. An audio-only connector that provides multiple channels of audio in noise-free compressed digital form. There are both optical and coax versions. It is used to export sound from a computer to to a stereo, to deliver sound from a DVD player to a stereo, or to deliver sound from a DTV box to a stereo.
