Lojack : Computer Hardware Buyers’ Glossary

LoJack
LoJack is a service from Absolute.com that will help the police track down your stolen laptop. It does not require a GPS (Global Positioning System) unit in your laptop. If the thief reformats or replaces your hard drive, he will still get caught. It works by permanently modifying the BIOS (Basic Input Output System). It also lets you erase crucial files on a stolen computer remotely. It requires a compatible BIOS. I believe it works by calling home to absolute.com periodically and reporting its IP (Internet Protocol).
