KVM switch : Computer Hardware Buyers’ Glossary

KVM switch
KVM (Keyboard-Video-Mouse) switch. A little box that lets you use a single keyboard, mouse and video monitor to control several different computers. You flip a switch to determine which computer you want to be connected to. Decent ones let you flip without shutting down the computers.

A reverse KVM lets you choose which of two keyboards you want to use to be connected to your computer, e.g. one for typing German and one for Arabic. It lets you select which of two mice, e.g. left or right hand mice alternately to avoid repetitive stress injury, and it lets you select between two monitors.

Of course you can use only part of a KVM or reverse KVM (Kilobyte Virtual Machine) to switch just the keyboard, video or mouse, though you probably won’t be able to switch the functions independently.
