DAB+ : Computer Hardware Buyers’ Glossary

DAB+
DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting Plus) is a digital replacement for AM/FM radio broadcasting. Because it is digital, it offers static-free broadcasts. It offers improved stereo quality and text transmission. The text transmission can be used for things like displaying the song currently playing, the station call letters, simultaneous news feeds and phone numbers that correspond to the ads on a small LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen. Digital radios with onboard storage allow you to pause live radio or rewind, just like a digital set top box works for digital television. It is free in Australia, though you need to buy a new radio capable of receving the digital broadcasts. It uses traditional broadcast towers, not a satellite, so reception depends on location. The closest equivalent in the USA is satellite radio.
